Full Description

Introduction: As a fire instructor, your role extends beyond firefighting techniques and emergency protocols. You are communicators, leaders, and influencers within the fire service community. Public speaking becomes your canvas—a space to convey vision, inspire action, and educate effectively. In this course we delve into the art of narrative, equipping you with powerful tools to ignite engagement and drive impact.

Stories are a powerful tool for instructors to communicate their vision, values, goals.  They help us to connect with and influence the audience. Stories can also help instructors to reflect on their own experiences while fostering a culture of learning and growth.

Body language is also a vital component of communication.  Fire instructors need to be able to read, interpret, and use nonverbal cues to assess the condition, needs, and emotions of their audience, as well as to convey their message.

In this course, you will:

·         Understand the science and art of storytelling and why it matters for fire instructors.

·         Identify the key elements of a good story and how to structure it for maximum impact.

·         Discover your own stories and how to align them with your purpose and audience.

·         Practice storytelling techniques to enhance your delivery and engage your listeners.

·         Apply storytelling to various fire service contexts, such as training, mentoring, debriefing, and community outreach.

·         Learn how to avoid common storytelling mistakes and pitfalls that can undermine your credibility, professionalism, and safety.

·         Identify the key elements of body language, such as facial expressions, eye contact, gestures, posture, and tone of voice that is beneficial to fire instructors.

·         Learn how to use body language to enhance your communication, rapport, and influence with your audience.

·         Learn how to avoid common body language mistakes and pitfalls that can undermine your credibility and professionalism.

This course is designed for current and aspiring fire instructors who want to improve their public speaking and communication skills.

The course will take approximately 4 hours to complete.

Today’s fire service must be prepared for anything. We need to ensure our members have the basic skills needed to solve complex problems. This session examines the components needed to effectively inform, engage, and prepare our personnel for the situations they may be called to respond to. Multitasking, creativity, and follow-through are just a few of the skills that are required to properly train today’s fire service.
This course provides attendees with creative ways to build new skills as well as ways to maintain and reinforce skills that were previously developed. Today’s fire service must excel at understanding today’s responders as well as tomorrow’s challenges. Students will embark on a journey that illustrates how to build unconscious competence through dynamic training sessions.
