Brief Description: Provides entry-level Pumper operators knowledge/skills to meet the min. JPRs in NFPA 1002.

Full Description: This course is designed for the fire fighter who wishes to advance to the next level of his/her career. The course is designed around classroom lectures and field evolutions covering such activities as relay pumping, drafting, foam operations, apparatus maintenance, and driving. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to operate a fire department pumper during emergency situations. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively as a pumper operator during a final practical skills testing.

Students shall understand and follow all instructions pertaining to operational safety, as stated by instructors or as written in course materials. Instructors and students shall be mindful of safety at all times. Conduct judged to be unsafe shall be grounds for dismissal from the course.

Resources Required: In order to test for this certification you must be 18 years of age or older and carry a valid driver’s license.

The minimum training standards for Driver/Operator-Pumper certification shall be as set out in
Chapters 4 and 5 of that certain document titled NFPA 1002, Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications, 2017 Edition. To the extent that Chapters 4 and 5 require compliance with another NFPA standard, such standard shall be that which is referred to in Chapter 2.

Chapter 4 is the Driver Operator General requirements of this certification. If you have not been certified in one of the old Driver/Operator certifications you will need to complete a Driver/Operator General course.
