Brief Description
Provide entry level firefighters the knowledge and skills to meet the min. JPRs in NFPA 1001.
Full Description
The minimum training standards for Firefighter II certification shall be as set out in Chapter 5 of
that certain document titled NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2019 Edition.  The course is designed for the Fire Fighter I who is ready to assume a leadership role in a department.

Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to function in fire ground situations so that he/she can make basic evaluations of safety problems and assume leadership roles in carrying out interior attack and search operations and be able to perform the tasks assigned as well as supervise a Firefighter I.

Major topics covered in the course are incident command, building construction, ventilation, water distribution, hose streams, fixed fire protection systems, fire prevention, inspection preplanning, ladders, and rescue procedures.

To obtain certification candidates must successfully complete the practical skills, score at least a 70% on the state written exam and meet ALL prerequisites prior to testing. The current textbook approved by the Fire & Public Safety Academy is IFSTA Essentials 7th Edition.

In order to test for a Firefighter II Certification you must have the prerequisite of: being certified as either a Firefighter I or Second Class Firefighter. If you do not have this on your record by the time testing ID's are issued, you will not receive a testing ID.

Candidates should expect to spend study and practice time outside of class to prepare for the written and practical examinations.

Firefighting gear may be required for the practical skills activity. Students are encouraged to bring personal cameras for use in the practical activity.
Reporting Instructions
Requirements:
Must be 18 years old and have Haz Mat Awareness and Operations and Firefighter 1.

Structural firefighting gear to include full turn out gear, nomex hood, gloves, eye protection and SCBA with facemask.

Must be clean shaved to perform any fire ground tasks that require an SCBA during class.

Provide your own Essentials of Firefighting 7th Edition from IFSTA, this is not a District class so they will not provide books.

Computer for online studies and testing.

Firefighter 2 will require the student to do independent studies of the material with short reviews of the material at the beginning of each class but focusing on the hands-on skills during in person classes.

Chapter Quizzes and Tests need to be completed at the begin of each class.
