Brief Description: Provide entry level firefighters the knowledge and skills to meet the min. JPRs in NFPA 1001.

Full Description: The purpose of the Firefighter I course is to provide entry level firefighters with the knowledge and skills to meet the minimum job performance requirements as outlined in NFPA 1001. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively on emergency scenes and be able to perform the basic tasks assigned. Skills covered include firefighter orientation, fireground safety, basic self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), personal protective equipment, small tools, apparatus, hose, ladders and basic fire- ground operations. To obtain certification candidates must successfully complete the practical skills, score at least a 70% on the state written exam and meet ALL prerequisites prior to testing.

Resources Required: Candidates should expect to spend study and practice time outside of class to prepare for the written and practical examinations.

Firefighting gear may be required for the practical skills activity. Students are encouraged to bring personal cameras for use in the practical activity.

Reporting Instructions: You shall have completed Module A (2018), Module B (2018) in order to receive a testing ID for this course.
