Brief Description: Provide knowledge and skills for the min. JPRs in NFPA 1021 sections 4.6.1 and 4.6.2.

Full Description: The purpose of the Fire Officer Strategy and Tactics course is to provide senior firefighters and entry level Fire Officers with the knowledge and skills to meet the minimum job performance requirements as outlined in NFPA 1021 sections 4.6.1 and 4.6.2. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively as the initial incident commander. This course is designed to give the candidates the ability to perform scene size up and make strategic and tactical decisions during the first 15 minutes of an incident.

To obtain certification candidates must successfully complete the practical skills, score at least a 70% on the state written exam and meet ALL prerequisites prior to testing.

Prerequisites: Must be either a First Class Firefighter or Firefighter II for 1 year

Resources Required: You must be certified as at least a Mandatory Firefighter for at least one (1) year to be issued a testing ID. If you do not meet this prerequisite by the time testing ID's are issued, you will not receive a testing ID.

Candidates should expect to spend time outside of class to complete the required exercises and prepare for the written and practical examinations.

Firefighting gear is not required for the class but old clothes, gloves and work boots are recommended for the practical activity. Students are encouraged to bring personal cameras for use in the practical activity.
