This course provides you with the knowledge and skills to meet min. JPRs as outlined in NFPA 472.
Full Description
This course will give you the knowledge and skills to meet the minimum job performance requirements as outlined in NFPA 472. In addition, this course provides those who are or will be operating as a member of a fire department, law enforcement agency, EMS agency, emergency management agency, or other first responder agency, the basic skills needed to evaluate and work defensively at an incident involving the release of hazardous materials. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively identify hazardous materials make the necessary notifications, basic hazards and risk-assessment techniques for HazMat environments, perform scene isolation, public protection actions and defensive control measures at hazardous materials incidents. Additionally, you will learn about selecting and using proper personal protective equipment provided to the first responder at the Operations level; performing basic control, containment and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and personal protective equipment available; and an understanding of the relevant standard operating guidelines and termination procedures.

Resources Required
In order to test for this certification you must meet the prerequisite of having a Hazardous Materials 1st Responder Awareness Certification.   If you do not meet this prerequisite by the time testing ID's are issued you will not receive a testing ID. The only exceptions are if you are enrolled in a career center or testing with a variance.

Candidates should expect to spend practice and study time outside of class to prepare for the written and practical skills examinations.
