Brief Description: To provide a Confined Space Rescuer Technician knowledge/skills to meet the min. JPRs in NFPA 1670.

Full Description: The Confined Space Rescue Technician course has been designed in accordance with the NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents as well as NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications. The goal of this course is to prepare responders to operate as a local member of a team to respond to an event requiring statewide response that has resulted in the need for a permit required confined space rescue at the Technician level. This class reviews the federal and state regulations for confined space, high angle, and hazardous materials incidents, the use of specialized equipment for atmospheric monitoring, and commercial and rescuer constructed retrieval systems. This course includes simulated rescue evolutions requiring a mixture of all three disciplines, challenging the responder to deal with rescuing the rescuer in a contaminated atmosphere. Special emphasis is given to rescuer safety, tactical scene management, patient care, decontamination, and the construction and operation of retrieval systems.

Resources Required: In order to test for this certification you must meet the prerequisite of being certified in Confined Space Rescuer Operations. If you do not have this certification, on your ACADIS record, or one that meets this certification you will not be issued a testing ID and you will not be allowed to test for this certification until you meet the prerequisite.

Firefighting gear may be required for the practical skills activity. Students are encouraged to bring personal cameras for use in the practical activity.

Students shall understand and follow all instructions pertaining to operational safety, as stated by instructors or as written in course materials. Instructors and students shall be mindful of safety at all times. Conduct judged to be unsafe shall be grounds for dismissal from the course.

Reporting Instructions: Classes will be held Monday-Friday from 8am to 6pm each day

The Confined Space Rescue Operations/Technician curriculum provides fire service personnel with the basic knowledge and skills to safely perform confined space rescue as defined by NFPA 1670, Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents.  This course will follow Indiana firefighter certification and NFPA guidelines.
PPE:  Provided by student - Long sleeve shirts, pants, boots that cover ankles, eye protection, leather palm gloves and kneepads (if so desired). You are allowed to bring your own helmet and harness, but an instructor, prior to use, must inspect it.

• Confined Space Rescuer Technician - Confined Space Rescuer Operations

1. CMC Confined Space Entry and Rescue Manual Revised 2nd Edition
2. NFPA 1006, 2013 Edition, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents.

You must register for both classes via Acadis Portal with a PSID and meet the class pre- requisites of Tech Rescue Awareness, Hazmat Operations and must have been an Indiana First Responder or higher (expired certs are ok).
