Provides knowledge/skills in Vehicle & Machinery Rescue Technician as outlined in NFPA 1670.
Full Description
This course provides knowledge and skills to meet the minimum job performance requirements as outlined in NFPA 1670, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents. The course trains Firefighters who respond to incidents such as: passenger and heavy vehicle incidents, equipment entrapments, impalements, and farm and industrial machinery entrapments. The course is designed to offer a combination of classroom and practical evolutions that allow the student to learn proper techniques to plan for a vehicle/machinery incident, establish fire protection, stabilize a vehicle or machine, isolate potential harmful energy sources, determine vehicle access and egress points, create access and egress openings for rescue, disentangle victims, remove a packaged victim to a designated safe area, and terminate a vehicle/machinery incident. Course topics also include proper use of hand, electric, pneumatic, and heavy hydraulic tools. All operations stress rescuer and victim safety.

Resources Required
Firefighting gear may be required for the practical skills activity. Students are encouraged to bring personal cameras for use in the practical activity.

Students shall understand and follow all instructions pertaining to operational safety, as stated by instructors or as written in course materials. Instructors and students shall be mindful of safety at all times. Conduct judged to be unsafe shall be grounds for dismissal from the course.
