Provide entry level firefighters the knowledge and skills to meet the min. JPRs in NFPA 1001.
Full Description
The purpose of the Firefighter I course is to provide entry level firefighters with the knowledge and skills to meet the minimum job performance requirements as outlined in NFPA 1001.  Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively on emergency scenes and be able to perform the basic tasks assigned.  

Skills covered include firefighter orientation, fireground safety, basic self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), personal protective equipment, small tools, apparatus, hose, ladders and basic fireground operations.

To obtain certification candidates must successfully complete the practical skills, score at least a 70% on the state written exam and meet ALL prerequisites prior to testing (unless issued a variance).

You must hold a Hazardous Materials Operations Certification
18 years old
You must be a member of an Indiana Fire Department to take this course, or a student in a school or career center.

Candidates should expect to spend study and practice time outside of class to prepare for the written and practical examinations.

Firefighting gear may be required for the practical skills activity. Students are encouraged to bring personal cameras for use in the practical activity.
